Design of Breakwaters to Minimize Greenwater Loading on Bow Structures of Fixed Vessels

Greenwater (splashing of water on the deck) loading is a classical problem faced by designers ship-shaped vessels, which becomes even worse when vessel operates in harsh weather conditions for an extended period time. Installation breakwaters deck can play crucial role minimizing this impact. However, research design and optimization breakwater still its infancy, study aims at shedding further light area proposing analysing effectiveness three designs fixed box-shaped vessel. The commercial CFD software ANSYS Fluent used investigation. model (without breakwater) was validated first against experimental results greenwater splashing, before performing actual simulations with proposed design. A vertical plate as structure, pressure several locations that measured to compare various designs. Overall, openings (perforations, grillages, etc.) were found be more effective generated greenwater. Nevertheless, there significant room improvement designs, some topics are also suggested regard.
